Graphic design is becoming more interactive, and not only in the field of multimedia. Printed matter can also suggest new forms of communication and seek an active reaction from the public. These are examples of how design media become a process of mutual participation between the producer and the user. A beautiful piece of graphic work is not only something to be had or seen, it is also something to be experienced. Graphic design is in the streets, in the media, shops or clubs around us and on the internet. Playing music one plays graphics; playing sports one plays graphics; playing the rituals of consumer society one plays graphics. Designers play with their designs, and their designs let us play. Graphic designers are asked to produce in pre-established formats: posters, flyers, magazines, stamps and corporate logos. Free creativity takes place within strictly defined parameters, to the point that these parameters can also provide a useful framework for the designers individual research. Design is not forced into the format; design develops into the format.
